Coimbatore: Two ganja peddlers were arrested and 235kg of ganja worth 70 lakh was seized from them on Wednesday. Police have also seized a car which was used to transport the contraband.Sulur police have identified the arrested peddlers as S Sathishkumar, 36, from Thoothukudi district, and K Vethamani, 27, from Nagapattinam district.They were apprehended when a police team conducted a vehicle check at Rayapuram Pirivu near the Sulur air base following a tip-off. Police recovered the ganja packed in gunny bags and placed in the rear seat and boot of the car.Preliminary inquiry revealed that the duo had travelled to Andhra Pradesh to procure the ganja, and were heading to Kerala to supply the contraband there. Sulur police registered a case, and both were remanded in judicial custody.Meanwhile, Coimbatore district superintendent of police Dr K Karthikeyan inspected Sulur police station on Saturday and appreciated the officers for arresting the two peddlers. He further requested people to inform the police if they notice any anti-social elements or drug peddlers.
