Bhubaneswar, Jul 10 (PTI) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday said that next year's Eastern Zonal Council meeting will be held in Puri. Majhi made the announcement upon his return from Ranchi after attending the 27th meeting of the Eastern Zonal Council. "I proposed at the meeting that Odisha wants to host the 28th meeting of the council next year. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who presided over the meeting, accepted my proposal and suggested that we hold the next meeting in Puri," Majhi told reporters at the airport. The chief minister said other members at the meeting also accepted the Union minister's suggestion and it was announced that the 28th meeting of the council would be held in Puri, he said. The chief minister said that the meeting covering the states of Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha was successfully concluded. In particular, discussions were held on how to accelerate the social and economic development of the region and reach the unreached areas with the schemes. The chief minister said that the Union home minister emphasised the need to completely eliminate Naxal activities from the country by March 31, 2026 and various ways to solve the Naxal problem were also discussed in the meeting.
