Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Thursday refused to grant relief to candidates seeking age relaxation for the fresh recruitment process by West Bengal Central School Service Commission (WBSSC).These candidates claimed to be of eligible age in 2022 for the first SLST; however, since the recruitment process was postponed, they are now over 40 years old.Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya said the Supreme Court judgment had specified that age relaxation would only be for untainted candidates and those with disabilities. Hence, the HC could not allow any relaxation for this category, the judge said.The 2022 recruitment process was postponed due to pending litigations over the 2016 panel.

Kolkata: The number of Bangladeshi released prisoners languishing in correctional homes across the state has come down to 179 -- as of Jan 1, 2024 -- compared to 495 in 2011. According to the West Bengal Correctional Services data, there were 212 released foreign nationals or 'jankhalash' -- 136 men and 76 women -- in correctional homes in the state as of Jan 1, 2024, out of which 179 were from Bangladesh.
