Thiruvananthapuram: A protest march to Raj Bhavan staged by the Student Federation of India (SFI) turned violent in the state capital on Thursday. Around 10-12 activists, including SFI state president Sivaprasad, were seen climbing the barricades placed by the police. As the protesters refused to disperse even after the use of water cannons, police personnel began preparing to deploy tear gas. The SFI organised the protest to oppose Governor Rajendra Arlekar's alleged promotion of RSS ideology in universities. The student wing of the ruling CPM has called for a statewide protest against the governor. In visuals aired on news channels, hundreds of SFI activists were seen marching towards Raj Bhavan.
