BHOPAL: Vatsala, perhaps the oldest elephant on Earth, breathed her last on Tuesday afternoon, following age-related health issues at Madhya Pradesh's Panna Tiger Reserve (PTR), her home for the past 32 years. Having survived two near-fatal attacks by a male tusker in six years, the female elephant estimated to be aged between 100 and 110 years, also suffered severe cataract (irreversibly damaging her vision), besides digestive issues and movement-related problems at the Hinauta Elephant Camp at PTR. According to an official statement, Vatsala had been resting near Khairaiya Nala in the Hinauta range due to a broken toenail on one of her front legs on Monday. Despite efforts by the PTR staff, including vets to help her stand, she didn't recover and passed away at around 1.30 pm on Tuesday.
