Union minister of coal & mines G Kishan Reddy presented the 5-Star Rating memento and certificate to senior officials of LMEL in a ceremony held at Rajasthan International Centre, Jaipur, on July 7. Surjagarh mines have won this national recognition for its stellar performance in operational excellence and green innovation in 2023-24. Reddy presented the award to LMEL officials in presence of Satish Chandra Dubey, Union minister of state for coal & mines; Peeyush Narayan Sharma, controller general in-charge, Indian Bureau of Mines; Pankaj Kulshreshtha, chief controller of mines, IBM. The five-star rating has made Surjagarh Iron Ore Mines a shining example of outstanding achievement in sustainable and environment-friendly mining operations under Sustainable Development Framework (SDF) guidelines. The Union ministry of mines has evolved a system of star rating of mines to implement the SDF. The prestigious five-star rating is awarded to a mine with a score equal to or above 90% in all the modules. Expressing happiness, B Prabhakaran, managing director of LMEL, said that the achievement became possible with the support of the local communities and the LMEL team. "The five-star rating under the SDF developed by the ministry of mines is indeed a matter of great pride for LMEL and the people of Gadchiroli.
