Safe completion of Kanwar Yatra govt's top priority, say CS, DGP | Lucknow News - Times of India

Lucknow: Chief secretary Manoj Kumar Singh and DGP Rajeev Krishna on Tuesday said that successful completion of Kanwar Yatra is the top priority of the state govt and directed senior officials of all the divisions to coordinate with other states to ensure "grand and safe completion of the yatra".The chief secretary directed officials to ensure the availability of basic amenities like drinking water, food, cleanliness, and security for 'kanwariyas'."Officials should ensure no unauthorised person enters the camps and ban on single-use plastic should be enforced," he said.The food department officials were instructed to arrange for quality checks of food items in hotels, dhabas, and camps to prevent incidents like food poisoning.The chief secretary issued stern warnings against vigilante behaviour, especially those conducting unauthorised checks at eateries and roadside 'dhabas' on the 'kanwar' route in the name of religious sentiments."No group or individual has the authority to check food at any hotel or 'dhaba'. This responsibility lies solely with the food safety department," he said.Public works department and NHAI officials were directed to repair roads on the Yatra route, while the electricity department was directed to fix electrical wires and poles on the route to prevent any untoward incident.Electric poles would be covered with polythene, and transformers would be barricaded."Vulgar and obscene songs should not be played on DJ Kanwar," the chief secretary said."Camps should be set up at a designated distance from the road. Health check-ups should be conducted for 'kanwariyas' on the route. All pilgrims should carry their identification documents. Arrangements should be made to prevent 'kanwariyas' from travelling on train roofs, and crowd management measures should be implemented on railway platforms for the safety of devotees," Singh said.The DGP said strict restrictions should be imposed on the sound levels of DJs, declaring that no music system will be allowed to exceed 75 decibels."Large DJ set ups will be restricted to city bypasses, and will not be allowed inside urban areas," he said.The DGP also directed strict drone surveillance, route diversions and close monitoring of anti-social elements along the kanwar yatra routes.
