Chennai: The auto component industry's trade surplus increased to just short of half a billion dollars in FY25 as exports overtook imports for the second year in a row. According to the latest data from the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), the trade surplus was $453 million in FY25 up from $300 million FY24. Auto parts exports at just under $23 billion are up 8% while imports at $22.4 billion are up 7%.Exports have nearly doubled from just over $13 billion in FY21. In FY25 top growth regions were CIS and Baltics (up 35.4%) followed by Latin America (up nearly 21%), Africa (up 17%) and Asia (up 15%). North America grew 8.4% but Europe was down 2%. North America with $7.35 billion is still the biggest export market followed by Europe at $6.75 billion and Asia at just under $6 billion. Africa, Latin America and CIS/Baltics together comprise nearly $3 billion in exports. The US is India's top export market with 27% share of the total pie with China as the top import market with 32% of the total pie. Engine components, drive transmission and steering parts account for more than half of India's exports.Added Vinnie Mehta, director general, ACMA, "That the auto component industry has registered a trade surplus for the second consecutive year is a strong indicator of India's rising global competitiveness.
