Daltonganj: The Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR) is eyeing to augment it sprey base by translocating deer from the two deer parks of the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) located at Chandrapura and Maithon areas. While Chandrapura facility has 40 deer, Maithon has 300.The principal chief conservator of forest (wildlife) cum chief wildlife warden, Paritosh Upadhyay, said, "We need to replenish our prey base in the PTR. We held talks with the DVC management to translocate deer to the PTR from DVC facilities. If all goes well, the translocation would start soon, first from Chandrapura."However, sources said that getting deer from Maithon facility would be a challenge as the road is not in a good condition.Last year, the PTR sourced over a 100 deer from the Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park in Ranchi.
Coal for these plants would be sourced from CIL's Jharkhand-based subsidiary, Central Coalfields Ltd. The estimated project cost is pegged at nearly Rs 21,000 crore and would be on a 50:50 equity sharing basis. The project cost includes the development, construction, and commissioning of both units.
