Mumbai, Jul 8 (PTI) Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Tuesday said representatives of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) gave a letter to Chief Justice of India B R Gavai to point out the delay in appointing the Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra legislative assembly. He also hit out at the BJP over its MP Nishikant Dubey's "patak patak ke marenge" remarks on the language issue in the state, saying the party was aiming to create a controversy in view of the upcoming elections to Bihar assembly and Mumbai civic body. CJI Gavai, who hails from Amravati district in Maharashtra, was on Tuesday felicitated by the state legislature upon his elevation to the top judicial post. Talking about the MVA's letter to the CJI, Thackeray said, "We apprised CJI Bhushan Gavai on how leader of opposition in the legislative assembly is yet to be appointed by the speaker. We are aware of the fact that such powers are vested with the speaker of the House. This country has seen minority governments or alliance governments, but despite having more than 200 MLAs on the treasury benches in the assembly, they appear to be afraid of the opposition leaders." "We have written our demand in the letter to CJI Gavai," he added. Another letter was submitted on behalf of the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the NCP (SP) regarding the pending cases surrounding the splits of the parties. "The constitutional mess needs to be addressed, and it has created some problems. We have requested CJI Gavai to address it," he said.
