Mumbai: The plan for parking lots in Breach Candy and Bhulabhai Desai Road submitted by the residents association, for which site visits were also carried by the police and local civic officials, has hit a road block as the area is still under the Coastal Road department and yet to be handed over to the D ward office of the BMC. The parking projects are undertaken by local ward office, and roads and traffic department of the BMC, however, untill the area is under the Coastal Road department, the implementation of the overground parking lots seems unlikely. The BMC had asked the Breach Candy Residents Forum (BCRF) to submit a parking proposal after the underground parking project behind the Tata Garden near the Amarsons junction along the Coastal Road was stalled. The BMC had started the digging for construction a two-storeyed underground parking, however the project was scrapped last year after the local residents objected it citing traffic jams in the area. The FPJ had reported on May 15 that following the parking plan submission by the BCRF, the Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Kumbhare had ordered for site inspections and study the feasibility. The residents had joint meeting with Kumbhare and BMC D ward's traffic officials seeking approvals for their proposed parking lots. The parking plan submitted by BCRF is broadly divided into 'Residents Pay & Park zones' and 'Visitors Pay & Park zones'. The residents' parking is proposed at five locations: Behind Indian Oil Petrol Pump, L&T site office, in front of Signature Garden, Mona Apartment Lane and Akruti Pay & Park facility, with a total capacity of accommodating a maximum of 195 cars. While the visitors' parking spaces are proposed at Setalvad Lane, Amarsons Garden Lane, Mazda and Dil Pazir, Sehar Agiary Lane, BCH Parking, Navroze, Akruti and the Haji Ali underground parking facility, accommodating a total of maximum 672 vehicles.
