Historically, bamboo stilts have served practical and recreational purposes for the Karbi people.The Bamboo Stilt Race, or Kengdongdang as it is known among the Karbi tribe, is more than just a sport. It is a symbol of heritage, endurance, and ingenuity, deeply embedded in the culture of the Karbi community, one of Assam's oldest tribes. Recently, this unique tradition made headlines when over 700 Karbi tribesmen set a new Guinness World Record in Guwahati, racing on bamboo stilts in a stunning display of unity and skill. Organized by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), 721 participants walked in a 2-kilometer-long single line for 10 minutes, surpassing the previous record of 250 participants.
