PATNA: The Nitish Kumar-led government on Tuesday approved 35% reservation for women candidates across all government services and posts, and also announced the formation of the Bihar Youth Commission.The proposals were cleared during a Cabinet meeting chaired by the chief minister, just months ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.The move comes amid mounting criticism from the opposition over the state's employment situation."I am happy to inform you that with an aim of providing more and more employment opportunities to the youths of Bihar, training them, and making them empowered and capable, the state government has decided to constitute Bihar Youth Commission," the CM said in a post on X."This commission will play a significant role in advising the government on all matters related to improving and uplifting the condition of youths in the society. It will also coordinate with government departments to ensure better education and employment for the youth," he said.Calling it a "visionary initiative," CM Kumar said the commission's primary goal is to make the youth self-reliant, skilled, and employment-ready, thereby ensuring a secure future."The Bihar Youth Commission will consist of a chairperson, two vice-chairpersons, and seven members, with a maximum age limit of 45 years," he said."This commission will monitor and ensure that youth of the state are given priority in private sector employment within the state, while also protecting the interests of youth studying and working outside the state," he said.In addition to employment generation, the commission will also work on programmes to curb social evils, including substance abuse, and will make relevant policy recommendations to the state government.Meanwhile, the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) recently announced a job fair in Patna on July 19, aimed at providing job opportunities to the youth of Bihar."Today 43 agendas have been stamped in the Council of Ministers, in which the most important agenda is the formation of the Youth Commission. This commission is related to the youth of 18-45 years, which will have one chairman, two vice-chairmen and 7 members.
