NEW DELHI, July 7: The second report of the NITI Aayog has revealed that all Northeast states, except for Manipur, have seen improved sustainable development in 2023-24, up from 62% in 2021-22. The report says Meghalaya has shown strong performance in front-runner districts, with 83.33% of its districts performing above the national average. East Khasi Hills and East Jaintia Hills performed best, while Sikkim and Tripura maintained 100% front-runner districts. Mizoram also joined the league. The report highlights the role of the index as a tool for identifying gaps, offering actionable insights, and guiding interventions and efficient resource deployment. The index is a joint effort between the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) and NITI Aayog, with technical support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). It provides a granular, district-level assessment of progress made on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The current edition of the index includes 84 indicators, with data from various Union government ministries and state sources. The improvement in district performance reflects the impact of national flagship schemes and localisation efforts through initiatives like the Aspirational Districts Programme. The report offers detailed district-level analysis and recommendations for accelerating progress towards achieving the SDGs by 2030, ensuring no district is left behind in the region's development journey.
