Kurnool, July 7 (UNI) The Srisailam reservoir, one of the biggest projects in Andhra Pradesh across the river Krishna, is receiving 1,98,550 cusecs of water and the officials are planning to lift crest gates to release water to the downstream Nagarjuna Sagar project. Following incessant rains in the catchment areas, the Srisailam project is receiving heavy inflows from the Jurala and Sukesula projects. Officials sources said that 23,924 cusecs of water is being released by generating hydropower at the right embankment while 35,315 cusecs of water is being released through hydropower generation from the left side. The total outflow from the project now is about 59,239 cusecs, project engineers said. The full capacity of the Srisailam reservoir is 885 feet and the water level stood at 880.50 feet now while 190.33 TMC of water is impounded now as against its maximum capacity of 215.80 TMC. Project engineers said that a decision would be taken whether to release water from the project by lifting crest gates tomorrow evening or Wednesday as the Srisailam project is already almost brimful. The project engineers said that Irrigation Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu and other public representatives were invited to attend the water release ceremony at the project. The Minister and others would perform pooja to the water of Krishna on the occasion. After a long time, the Srisailam project has started receiving inflow during the month of June and the reservoir is full in the first of July itself. The crest gates of the project are likely to be lifted tomorrow to release flood water to the downstream Nagarjuna Sagar project, project engineers said. Meanwhile, the river Godavari is also in spate with heavy inflow. The water level stood at 28.11at the Polavaram spillway on Monday. All the 48 crest gates were lifted to release over 2 lakh cusecs of water through spillway to the downstream, officials said.
