CBI arrests railway engineer and trackman in bribery case | Lucknow News - Times of India

Lucknow: The CBI on Saturday arrested two railway officials -- an assistant divisional engineer and a trackman -- of Northern Railway, Chandausi, Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 34,000 from a railway contractor.The arrests followed the registration of a case by the CBI on July 4 based on a complaint against the assistant divisional engineer Sanjeev Saxena for soliciting an illegal gratification of 2% commission on the clearance of pending bills worth Rs17,57,605.The complainant, a private contractor, was awarded a tender for railway track fitting work on Jan 19, 2024, by the Moradabad Division of NR.According to the complaint, Saxena demanded Rs34,000 to facilitate clearance of outstanding dues. Acting swiftly, the CBI laid a trap and caught both Sanjeev Saxena and his subordinate, Akash, a trackman, while accepting the bribe during the night of July 4.
