Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 5 (PTI) Indian cricketer Sanju Samson was on Saturday signed up by the Kochi Blue Tigers for the second edition of the Kerala Premier League (KPL) for a record figure of Rs 26.80 lakh. The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA), in a statement, said that the player auction for the second season of KPL concluded with Samson being the most expensive player for whom there was a fierce bidding war. Kochi Blue Tigers, Trivandrum Royals and Thrissur Titans fought till the end for the skipper of the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025, it said. Besides Samson, Vishnu Vinod and Jalaj Saxena also fetched over Rs 10 lakh in the auction which began on Saturday morning here in the presence of state General Education Minister V Sivankutty. Vishnu Vinod was bought by Aries Kollam Sailors for Rs 12.80 lakh and Jalaj Saxena for Rs 12.40 lakh Alleppey Ripples, the KCA statement said. "Out of the total 168 players, 91 players were acquired by various teams through the auction. Kollam, Alappuzha and Kozhikode had earlier retained four players each, while Thiruvananthapuram had retained three players," the statement said. There was a bidding battle for M S Akhil also. Akhil was the most valuable player of the last KPL season. He was bought for Rs 8.40 lakh by Kollam Sailors, the statement said. It also said that each KPL team could spend a maximum of Rs 50 lakh in the auction and Kochi spent the entire amount. New Delhi, Jan 14 (PTI) Wheat sowing increased by 1.38 per cent year-on-year to 320 lakh hectare so far in the ongoing 2024-25 rabi season, according to the agriculture ministry data released on Tuesday. Wheat, the main rabi (winter) crop, was sown in 315.63 lakh hectare in the year-ago period. Sowing of most rabi crops is nearing end. Harvesting will begin from April. New Delhi, Dec 18 (PTI) Net direct tax collection grew 16.45 per cent year-on-year to over Rs 15.82 lakh crore till December 17 this fiscal, buoyed by higher advance tax mop-up, government data showed. Advance tax collection during the period rose 21 per cent to Rs 7.56 lakh crore. The collection includes corporate tax of over Rs 7.42 lakh crore and non-corporate tax mop-up of Rs 7.97 lakh crore.
