New Delhi: A week after Deepak Kumar, nephew of jailed gangster Manjeet Mahal, was shot dead in front of his 10-year-old daughter during a morning walk in northwest Delhi's Bawana, Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested two suspects linked to the rival Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu gang following an early morning encounter.The arrests took place near Sector-34 in Rohini, close to the Munak Canal, on Friday. Acting on a tip-off about the movement of two suspects -- Sombir alias Chinu, from Hisar, Haryana, and Vijay, 31, from Chandigarh -- the Crime Branch laid a trap. As officers closed in, the suspects opened fire."They were warned to surrender but fired five rounds at the police, one of which misfired. In response, our team fired four rounds," said DCP (Crime Branch) Harsh Indora.Both suspects sustained gunshot injuries to their legs and were apprehended. Sombir is believed to be the main shooter in the July 27 killing of 43-year-old Deepak Kumar, while Vijay allegedly provided logistical support and shelter to the attackers. Police recovered two country-made pistols, seven live cartridges, a misfired round, and four spent shells from the scene, DCP Indora added.The murder was reportedly the result of a longstanding gang rivalry. Kumar was on his routine morning walk near his farmhouse when two men on a motorcycle shot him at close range -- allegedly firing eight rounds. He died on the spot. His daughter sustained a gunshot injury to her hand.Police sources confirmed that Kumar was the nephew of notorious gangster Manjeet Mahal and was suspected by the Nandu gang of being actively involved in his uncle's operations. UK-based gangster Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu, who is the subject of a Red Corner Notice, is believed to have ordered the hit after detailed reconnaissance of Kumar's routine.The killing is the latest escalation in the violent feud between the Mahal and Sangwan gangs, which has claimed over a dozen lives across Delhi and Haryana.
