Pune Rape Case: In a major twist, a man arrested for allegedly posing as a courier delivery boy and raping a 22-year-old techie in her home in a posh residential society in Pune turned out to be a friend of the victim, casting doubt on her version of the events. The woman had claimed that the accused entered the woman's society as a courier delivery boy, Despite the woman saying that she had no courier in her name, he insisted for a signature. When the woman opened the door, he allegedly raped her and clicked a selfie using the woman's phone. The woman's back and part of the accused's face was visible in the selfie. It was reported that the accused had left a message warning that he had taken her pictures and would release them on social media if she reported the incident, police said. "I will come again," the message read, according to police. However, the police were left baffled when it turned out that the accused was a friend of the victim and that it was the woman herself who took the selfie, police commissioner Amitesh Kumar told news agency PTI. "They know each other for a couple of years and belong to the same community," he said. The suspect turned out to be a highly qualified professional, and police soon found that he woman herself had taken the selfie, which originally showed his face clearly, edited it, and also typed the purported threatening message. Moreover, no chemical spray had been used on the woman to make her unconscious, as suspected earlier. "e are still ascertaining why the victim made allegations of rape and it is still under investigation as the girl's mental state is not good at present," the commissioner said. Police detained two individuals on Thursday in connection with the incident and said the identification of the accused will take place after the victim completes her medical examination. The process will be based on the victim's statement. The original case was registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 64 (rape), 77 (voyeurism), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and had triggered a swift police response. Police formed several teams to nab the accused and forensic experts were brought in to examine the alleged victim.
