Silchar: Train services on the Lumding-Silchar Hill section under Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) were disrupted on Thursday afternoon after a fresh landslide between Dihaku and Mupa stations blocked the tracks. The incident comes just days after the railway resumed operations on June 29, following a six-day suspension caused by a major landslide in the Jatinga Lampur area.Railway officials said restoration efforts are underway, but all train movements on the Lumding-Badarpur Hills section remain suspended until further notice. The landslide occurred at kilometre 51/2-3, where falling boulders and debris from nearby hills completely obstructed the route."All trains on Lumding-Badarpur Hills section have been cancelled, rescheduled or regulated. Railway teams have been mobilised to the site to clear the debris and boulders. Track restoration will take time, and services will remain affected until the area is safe for train movement," an NFR spokesperson said.The disruption has effectively cut off the Barak Valley regions of Assam, Tripura, Mizoram, and parts of Manipur, impacting rail connectivity across the northeastern corridor.To assist stranded passengers, railway authorities have set up help desks at five major stations -- Guwahati, Lumding, Silchar, Badarpur, and Agartala -- providing information, assistance, and alternative arrangements.The railway administration is closely monitoring the situation and has assured the public of regular updates as restoration work progresses. Commuters are advised to check official notices and plan their journeys accordingly, the NFR statement said.
