The IPS officer was on his way to his first posting in Karnataka's Hassan when he died in an accident, the police said. In a tragic turn of events, a 26-year-old IPS officer died in a road accident in Karnataka's Hassan district while he was on his way to take up his first posting, the police said on Monday. The officer was identified as Harsh Bardhan, hailing from Madhya Pradesh, and a 2023-batch IPS officer of the Karnataka cadre. The accident took place on Sunday evening as the vehicle he was travelling in suffered a tyre burst near Kittane in Hassan taluk. The driver lost control of the vehicle which hit a house and a tree on the roadside, the police said. The police said that Bardhan was on his way to Hassan to assume the charge as a probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police in Holenarasipur. The officer sustained severe head injuries leading to his death in the hospital during treatment. The driver, Manjegowda, suffered minor injuries. Bardhan, son of a sub-divisional magistrate, had recently completed his four-week training at the Karnataka Police Academy in Mysuru.
