Vadodara: It was an unusual sight in Moti Koral village of Karjan taluka on Monday when residents witnessed an eight-foot-long crocodile being walked back to the river -- on a leash. In a scene that amused and surprised villagers alike, forest department volunteers followed closely behind the massive reptile, with one of them holding a rope tied around its body. The crocodile had reportedly ventured out of the Narmada river and entered a nearby agricultural field, prompting concerned locals to alert the authorities."We received a call about a crocodile spotted in the field. When our team reached the location, they tied a rope around the animal to guide it back. But before we could lift it, the crocodile began moving towards the river on its own," said a Karjan forest official.Realising the reptile was headed back to its natural habitat, the team decided not to cage it. "Since it was not aggressive and was heading home, we simply followed it with the rope until it entered the river. We then removed the rope," the official added. The crocodile's slow, steady march became the talk of the village, as dozens of curious residents followed behind, laughing, cheering, and recording videos -- while the reptile remained unfazed by the attention.According to wildlife experts, the Narmada river is home to a significant crocodile population. During the monsoon season, it is not uncommon for crocodiles to wander several kilometres, either in search of new water bodies or due to rising water levels in the river.
