Patna: Hundreds of students took out a procession from Patna College on Wednesday and staged a protest demanding domicile policy in the state govt jobs.The students, under the banner of Bihar Student Union, tried to jump the barricades near Dak Bungalow crossing with their intention to march to CM house. Police had to resort to mild force to disperse them. Six of the protesters, including two women, were detained.Later, a delegation led by their leader Dileep Kumar, met chief secretary Amrit Lal Meena. Dileep told reporters that the talks were positive and the chief secretary assured them to place their demand before CM Nitish Kumar.The students alleged that the youths of Bihar were getting less opportunities as a large number of candidates from outside the state were being selected for govt jobs in Bihar. They carried banners with slogans like 'Bihar wants domicile'."The chief secretary told us that we will hear some good news soon. He said the demand was already under the govt consideration and files will be moved soon after his meeting with the CM on the issue," Dileep told reporters.He said they demanded implementation of at least 90% domicile policy in the state govt jobs. "If our demand is not met in a week, we will call a statewide bandh," he said. The students had earlier staged a protest on the same issue on June 5 and the officials had assured them to consider their demands. "Domicile was implemented in the recently released vacancies for librarians and clerks. But, it was not extended to all govt jobs," Dilip said.The students demanded 90% domicile in all state govt jobs, including BPSC TRE 4, constables, inspectors, and BSSC. The remaining10 % seats may be open for selection based on merit to both outsiders and candidates from the state, they demanded.The students, however, demanded a 100% domicile policy in primary teacher recruitment, citing the importance of primary education being delivered in mother tongue. They also demanded that the BPSC TRE-4 vacancies must be released soon with domicile in place before the state assembly elections. They also said the 35% reservation for women from unreserved category should be exclusively for candidates from Bihar itself.Their demands also included more state-specific questions in all the competitive examinations in Bihar. The protesters said that one of the reasons for the high unemployment rate in the state is the lack of domicile policy.
