Pernem: Nilesh Dessai (46), arrested in connection with the recent acid attack on a 17-year-old youth in Dhargalim, has been remanded in two days of police custody by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Pernem. Police said Dessai had stolen the acid used in the attack from the company in Karaswada where he had been employed as a gardener for just over a week. On Friday, he allegedly stole a five-litre can of acid, which he concealed in his scooter under a raincoat. Police investigations revealed that the victim was in a relationship with Dessai's minor daughter. Both were students at a higher secondary school in Mapusa. The girl allegedly passed away after their relationship ended. Dessai was sent to Goa Medical College and Hospital for medical examination to check for acid traces on his body. Police have seized his scooter, helmet, and raincoats, all believed to have been used in the crime. Forensic tests are being conducted to detect chemical traces on the vehicle. The accused will be produced before the Children's Court in Panaji on Thursday for further remand.

Lucknow: Umar Ansari, the younger son of gangster-turned-politician late Mukhtar Ansari, was arrested by Ghazipur police from Darul Shafa area of Lucknow late Sunday night.The arrest was made following the registration of a criminal case against him for forgery in Ghazipur. Mumbai, Jul 15 (PTI) Edible oil refiners are expected to witness a 2-3 per cent year-on-year decline in revenue to Rs 2.6 lakh crore in FY26 due to lower realisations, a report said on Tuesday. However, volumes are likely to grow 2.8-3.0 per cent year-on-year, Crisil Ratings said in the report. As a result, operating margin is expected to shrink 30-50 basis points to 3.3-3.5 per cent. New Delhi: A 20-year-old youth was fatally stabbed in a road rage incident in east Delhi's Geeta Colony on Friday night. The scuffle began when his scooter grazed another two-wheeler and the three men astride allegedly assaulted and stabbed the victim.The deceased, Yash, was the only son of his parents.
