Ranchi: City is gearing up for the inauguration of the 4.18 km, four-lane Ratu Road flyover on Thursday by Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari. The minister will also address a gathering at the OTC ground in Piska More on the same day.Earlier, the flyover was scheduled for inauguration on June 19.As a final touch-up to the construction continued on Tuesday, city residents expressed satisfaction over the timely completion of the project. Once it is opened to the public, the flyover will ensure hassle-free movement along the Kutchery-Ratu Road stretch, providing respite to the commuters from the chronic traffic congestion along the stretch. Ahead of its inauguration, the approach road from the Kutchery Chowk to the elevated corridor was demarcated with traffic cones to streamline the traffic movement on the road. Developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the construction of the flyover began in 2021. After its opening, the elevated corridor will also facilitate hassle-free movement for the people of the nearby districts of Gumla and Daltonganj.Ravi Jha, a commuter, said, "The flyover will make commuting on the stretch easy. It will reduce the travelling time by at least 20 minutes. From Kutchery to Ratu Chowk, it takes more than half an hour at present, which will come down to 10 minutes once the flyover becomes operational."Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth recently directed NHAI officials to ensure that the space under the flyover is developed as a play area, so that it can supplement the lack of playgrounds in the city and help children's physical activities.
