Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Only 19,000 government school teachers recorded e-attendance in the state on Tuesday - the first day of the state government making it compulsory for school teachers to register their attendance electronically. According to official data, 19,000 teachers used Hamare Shikshak app for log in (i.e. recording the time at which they reached their schools) and 9,300 used it for log out (recording the time they left their schools). The total number of school teachers in the state is 2.5 lakh. The number of downloads of the app from Google Play Store was 1.07 lakh. The complaints of the app not working were received from about 15 districts. After a week-long trial, the government has made it compulsory for school teachers to record their attendance twice every working day on Education Portal 3.0 of the department using their mobile phone. Hamare Shikshak app is to be used for this purpose. From July 1, all teachers were supposed to use GPS tracking app to record the time they reach their schools and when they leave it. In the state capital, none of the teachers in Sultania cluster used the app to record their attendance. "We boycotted the e-attendance system as it is discriminatory. It has been made compulsory only for teachers. The non-teaching staff of the schools as well as senior officials have been exempted. This is unfair and unjust," a teacher said. A teacher from a higher secondary school in New Bhopal said that in her school, network and technical issues prevented many teachers from recording their attendance on the app. "Some teachers who have joined recently could not find their names on the portal," she said. 75% govt school teachers boycott e-attendance President of MP Government Teachers' Association, Upendra Kaushal said, "About 75% of the government school teachers in Madhya Pradesh boycotted e-attendance on Tuesday. We are not opposed to e-attendance but why only school teachers are being singled out. Why is this system not being adopted in other state government departments?"
