Kolkata: A nine-member Special Task Force on Monday questioned three students of South Kolkata law college, who were present in the campus, on the day of the alleged rape but were not involved in the crime. "All the three FIR-named accused persons have been arrested in less than 12 hours. Another accused person has since been arrested based on evidence. Medicolegal examination of the victim and the accused persons have been completed. Forensic examination of the place of occurrence has been done. Investigation is being monitored by a special investigation team under the close supervision of senior officers," Kolkata Police said on X. The three accused - Monojit Mishra, Zaib Ahmed, and Pramit Mukhopadhyay - reportedly having alleged links to Trinamool Congress' student wing, were arrested on Friday on charges of raping a woman inside the law college premises. ON Tuesday, the four accused will be produced before a Kolkata court, following the four-day remand. Mishra's mobile phone has been sent to a forensic laboratory, police sources said. He has also been removed from the temporary post in the college while the two other accused students were rusticated from the college on Monday. The CCTV footage recovered by the Kolkata police has largely corroborated the victim's complaint. Police have also recovered the CCTV footage of the medicine shop beside the college. "Police had come to the medicine shop on Saturday and Sunday. One person had bought a duolin inhaler at around 8:30pm. We have given all necessary information to the police," the shop owner said. Meanwhile, the South Kolkata Law College in Kasba has been closed for an indefinite period, following a decision by the governing body for the protection of crime scene and Place of Occurrence. A notification was issued over the website of a South Kolkata law college on Sunday that the classes will remain suspended and the college premises will be closed until further notice. The students of the college submitted a deputation to the principal, expressing certain demands for safety and security of the students, following the alleged rape inside the campus.

Lucknow: A man accused of raping a three-year-old girl died in an encounter with Uttar Pradesh police in Lucknow on Friday, a day after a complaint was registered against him.
