Mysuru: Three police officers, including one police inspector and two police sub-inspectors, were placed under suspension for their alleged lapses in the investigation of a murder case wherein a man was falsely implicated. He was then jailed on the charge of murder.Southern police range chief DIGP MB Boralingaiah ordered the suspension of inspector BG Prakash and sub-inspectors Mahesh Kumar and Prakash Yathinamani based on the inquiry report submitted by the additional superintendent of police. A detailed enquiry will follow.All three officers worked at Bettadapura police station in Periyapatna, where the investigation was conducted after an unidentified body was found in its limits in mid-2021. A villager, Kurubara Suresh, was falsely implicated in the case, accused of murdering his missing wife, Mallige, and was then sent to judicial custody.After three years, Mallige was traced in Madikeri and was produced before a Mysuru court, which ordered his acquittal in April 2025. The court declared that the charges against him were false.The police officers who conducted the investigation in the case accused Suresha of murdering his missing wife. Evidence was allegedly created to prove that it was the body of Mallige and that Suresha was involved in the murder, despite his pleas of innocence, claiming she had run away with her paramour.Though forensic examination revealed that it was the body of a male, police officers allegedly continued the investigation by fabricating false evidence with the intent to procure the conviction of Suresha.Mallige, after she was produced before the court, explained her disappearance and her life thereafter. She was living with her lover for four years and was unaware of Suresha being incarcerated over murder charges. Subsequently, Mysuru SP N Vishnuvardhana investigated the matter and submitted the statements of Suresha, Mallige, and their relatives, which led to the release of Suresha.Mallige returned to Madikeri. Suresha's advocate, Pandu Poojari, played a crucial role in the release of Suresha from jail and his acquittal. Now, Suresha has filed a criminal appeal in the high court seeking higher compensation.
