Lucknow: A cloth merchant, his wife and 16-year-old daughter were found dead allegedly in a suicide pact at their flat in Ashrafabad in Chowk on Monday morning. The deceased, identified as Shobhit Rastogi (48), his wife Shuchita (45) and their daughter, consumed poison, police said.According to police, around 5am on Monday, Rastogi's daughter made a brief call to her 'chachi' (aunt) saying she and her parents had taken ill and needed urgent help. She told her aunt they were not in a position to move and asked her to use the flat's spare key with them to enter the house."The aunt alerted her husband and he soon reached the flat and contacted the police. On entering the flat, they found the three family members lying unconscious. They were rushed to the KGMU Trauma Centre where doctors declared them dead," said DCP West Vishwajeet Srivastava. He added, "Shobhit and his daughter were lying on the bed while Shuchita was on the floor."Police recovered a one-page suicide note written in Hindi allegedly by Suchita which stated that she had taken some money from her parents and they were mounting pressure for her to return it on time.Neighbour Devesh Pandey claimed Shobhit was under a heavy debt and bank representatives often frequented his home.Police suspect that an open cold drink bottle found in the room had been mixed with poison. It has been sent to a forensic lab for testing. Police suspect the suicides were planned as the main door was locked from inside.Shobhit had a cloth shop in Rajajipuram. His two brothers live in Raja Bazaar area of the city. He had given his home's spare key to his brother on Sunday, saying that the family would be going out of town.Shobhit's staff said he appeared cheerful and displayed no signs of distress a day before his death. Neighbours described him as warm, social, and deeply involved in community activities.
