Ludhiana: Sadar police have nominated a relative of Kuldeep Singh, who was personal assistant to a former MP of Shiromani Akali Dal, in the case of his murder. According to the police, his relative arranged the car used in the crime and was present when Kuldeep was hacked to death with swords at the Missing Link-2 area near Dhandra Road on Friday night.The assailants first hit Kuldeep Singh's car, forcing him to stop. When he alighted from the car, they attacked him brutally with swords. A woman who lives nearby recorded a video of the gruesome murder. Police managed to obtain the registration number plate of the car, a Maruti Swift, used by the assailants and found that its owner runs a taxi service.Assistant commissioner of police (ACP-South), Harjinder Singh said, "When police reached the taxi driver whose car was used by the murderers, the name of Doraha resident Inderpal Singh came to fore. Inderpal Singh is a relative of the victim, Kuldeep Singh. The taxi owner said that Inderpal called him and asked for the car. Thereafter, police nominated Inderpal Singh in the FIR."Another police official said that Inderpal was also present at the crime scene. Investigation so far revealed that Inderpal and Kuldeep had a property dispute, he said, adding that this could have been the murder motive. Inderpal and his aides are on the run and raids are on for their arrest. Right at the outset of the investigation, police suspected the involvement of someone who knew that the victim would have access to his licenced pistol in the car. To disarm the victim, the accused forced him out of the car by ramming into it from behind. Police said that the elderly man had been living abroad with his wife and children. He came to India some time back for work related to a property case.
