Hul will rise again from this land of heroes: Champai Soren's call for tribal awakening | The Avenue Mail

Ranchi, June 28: Former Chief Minister Champai Soren declared that the spirit of "Hul" -- the historic tribal uprising -- will once again rise from the land of warriors. In a passionate social media post, Soren announced that Hul Diwas will be observed this year in Bhognadih, the birthplace of the rebellion, to give new momentum to the ongoing movement for tribal identity and existence. Soren recalled the 170-year-old Hul movement, where, despite the lack of communication tools, transportation, or modern infrastructure, tribal leaders like Sidho-Kanhu, Chand-Bhairav, Phoolo-Jhano, and Baba Tilka Majhi mobilized masses against British colonial rule to safeguard their culture and traditions. He expressed concern over rising threats to tribal identity, stating, "Bangladeshi infiltrators are encroaching on our lands, and the dignity of our daughters is at risk. The tribal existence is under threat across Jharkhand, including the Santal Pargana region." Criticizing the current government for not implementing the PESA Act (Panchayats Extension to Scheduled Areas), Soren said that tribal communities were being denied the benefits of government schemes. He emphasized that this must change and called for unity to follow the path shown by the great tribal heroes in Bhognadih.
