NEW DELHI, June 29 (Xinhua) -- At least four workers were killed and four others injured Sunday after soil caved in during pipeline excavation work in India's western state of Rajasthan, officials said. The incident took place at Jangi ka Nagla village in Bharatpur district, about 190 km east of Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan. "Today, a mud wall of a 10-feet-deep trench collapsed at a site where work is going on under the Chambal drinking water scheme. A total of six people were rescued. Four people have been admitted to the hospital, while two people were declared brought dead. Two more casualties have been reported, thus taking the toll to four," a senior local government official in Bharatpur, Qamar Chaudhary said. Qamar said the rescue operation is underway as personnel from the State Disaster Response Force, National Disaster Response Force, police and civil defence have been pressed into service. Officials said rescue teams used earthmoving machines to remove soil and retrieve the trapped laborers. ■
