Mysuru: The Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC), Mysuru, has postponed the installation of smart meters for all new electricity-seeking connections to July 15.A decision to this effect was taken at the customer's meeting organised to educate the public about smart meters, held at the office in Vijayanagar in the city on Saturday. Addressing the meeting, general manager of IT Wing CESC, Ramaswamy, said that CESC made the installation of smart meters mandatory for all new electricity connections, excluding high-tension (HT) consumers, effective July 1. However, it was postponed to July 15 following the demand from customers and suggestions from electricity contractors.In line with a directive from the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC), CESC has made the installation of smart meters mandatory for all new electricity connections, excluding high-tension (HT).Consumers applying for new connections must purchase smart meters from authorised retail outlets at rates prescribed by CESC and complete the connection process accordingly. It is compulsory for new power consumers to install smart meters at their own cost.Earlier, customers present at the meeting appealed to CESC to allow the installation of smart meters for new power connections after conducting all necessary tests. They suggested evaluating the pros and cons after installing the same in govt offices, institutions, and other commercial connections before applying the installations to new domestic power connections.
