Post Offices Across India to Start Accepting Digital Payments from August 2025

Delhi/Hyderabad, June 28 (Maxim News): In a major step toward digital transformation, post offices across India will begin accepting digital payments at their service counters from August 2025, as part of a nationwide IT upgrade initiative. Here To Join Us On WhatsApp According to official sources, the Department of Posts is in the final stages of rolling out a new IT application that will enable dynamic QR code-based digital transactions, aligning postal services with India's fast-evolving digital payments ecosystem. The new digital payment system is being implemented under the IT 2.0 infrastructure upgrade and will integrate the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) with post office operations -- something that was previously not feasible due to legacy systems. "The rollout of dynamic QR code functionality for accepting payments will be completed at all post offices by August 2025," said an official familiar with the development. This transformation will allow customers to digitally pay for services such as postage, parcel bookings, savings schemes, and more at over 1.5 lakh post offices across India. Earlier, post offices tried to enable digital payments using static QR codes at counters. However, that system faced technical glitches and mounting customer complaints, leading to its withdrawal. The new system, powered by dynamic QR codes, will address these challenges by generating a unique code for each transaction, improving accuracy, security, and user convenience. Starting August, customers will be able to use popular UPI apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, and BHIM to instantly pay for services at any post office, eliminating the need for cash transactions or delays. Here To Join Us On WhatsApp The digital payment option will be available for a wide range of services, including:
