Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Tarn Taran, Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal, passed away at an Amritsar hospital on Friday after a battle with cancer. His demise will necessitate a seventh assembly byelection that the ruling AAP will face in Punjab since the Bhagwant Mann-led govt took office in March 2022. Dr Sohal, 66, won the Tarn Taran seat by defeating Harmit Singh Sandhu of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Dharamveer Agnihotri of the Congress. Before joining politics, he worked as an eye specialist in the health department.
