Villupuram: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K Selvaperunthagai called on PMK founder S Ramadoss at his Thailapuram farmhouse in Villupuram district on Friday, setting off speculation about whether it was a political meeting to invite PMK to the DMK front.Selvaperunthagai said it was a 'courtesy call' to inquire about the health of Ramadoss, with whom he "has decades long association". "I came to inquire about Ramadoss' health. This was a courtesy meeting. Nothing was spoken about alliance or politics. No peace talks were conducted regarding the issue between Ramadoss and Anbumani," he told reporters after the meeting. Asked about the possibilities of PMK joining the alliance led by DMK, he said Stalin will take the decision.However, the meeting assumes political significance as PMK is yet to announce its decision on alliance for the 2026 assembly election. PMK had aligned with BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha election and has been keeping cards close to its chest this time.Ramadoss, however, had said that he was not keen on allying with BJP in 2024 LS polls. It was Anbumani who was determined on an alliance with BJP, Ramadoss had said indicating his unhappiness with the poll pact. PMK eventually drew a blank in the election. To queries on alliance, Ramadoss has been maintaining that a 'good and successful' alliance would be formed. With AIADMK and BJP joining hands now, PMK's options have been shrunk to DMK, AIADMK-BJP fronts now. In the DMK front though, VCK, which has been a longtime partner, has declared that it would not be part of any front which has PMK.Hence, Selvaperunthagai's visit to Thailapuram came as a surprise as it raised questions whether it was to reach out for an alliance and VCK's decision if such a pact is finalised. When Thirumavalavan was asked about Selvaperunthagai's meeting with Ramadoss, he told reporters that VCK would continue in the DMK alliance. "I am not aware of the agenda of the meeting.
