Chennai: Madras high court on Friday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of KV Kuppam MLA M Jaganmoorthy after govt called him 'brain' behind last week's abduction of a minor boy at Kelambakkam. "We are undergoing a phase of decriminalization in politics. The court should consider that and deny bail to the MLA," argued additional advocate general J Ravindran.Justice G Jayachandran, recording submissions, said: "This court, after perusing the CD file and noting the adverse conduct of the petitioner and his associates, particularly, when police went to his residence for investigation, arrives at an irresistible conclusion that for fair investigation and fearless trial, the petitioner needs to be secured and subjected to custodial interrogation."The case relates to the kidnapping of Indrachand, a minor whose elder brother Dhanush, 23, married Vijaya Sri, 21, against her family's wishes. He was kidnapped on June 7 to coerce him into revealing the couple's hideout."Tell me whether grant of AB will interfere in the probe. Can you get along with investigation without taking him into custody? Why does he have to be secured given that he appeared before police and cooperated with investigation?" Justice G Jayachandran said.AAG submitted that the MLA's replies during inquiry were evasive. On Jun1 16, when he appeared before the court, he was accompanied by 300 people prompting Justice P Velmurugan to wonder if he was trying to threaten the court.Senior advocate S Prabakaran contended that the MLA was not involved. "He has been implicated in the case solely based on confession of the two accused.
