Kolkata: In a shocking and disturbing incident, a woman was raped by her father-in-law, and then she was murdered. Her dead body was buried in a pit dug outside her marital home in Haryana's Faridabad. Now, new details have been unearthed in the case of the rape and murder of a 24-year-old woman from Uttar Pradesh. The incident allegedly took place in April and was not detected by anyone for almost two months, due to her in-laws claiming she had gone missing. The woman is a native of Firozabad district's Shikohabad and got married in July 2023. She was reportedly harassed by in-laws over dowry demands. On June 21, her body was found buried under a concrete slab laid over a 10-foot-deep pit outside the home of her in-laws. The police has stated that the father-in-law has confessed during interrogation in the custody and is in a three-day police remand. As per the investigators, on April 14, the plan to kill her was finalised, and accordingly, her mother-in-law attended a wedding for an alibi. On the night of April 21, her husband mixed sleeping pills into her food, which made her unconscious. The murder on the fateful night Late that night, her father-in-law entered the room to kill her. Before that, he allegedly raped the unconscious woman, his daughter-in-law, and did not tell that to his wife or son at the time. Once the deed was done, the father-in-law called his son upstairs and they threw the dead body into a pit in the street. The pit was near the house and was filled with bricks and soil after the body was placed inside. After a few days, a concrete slab was placed over it. They dug the pit under the pretext of drainage repairs and used an earthmover. On April 25, the father-in-law filed a missing person's complaint. When the dead body was recovered, it had partially decomposed. After the discovery, an FIR was registered against the father-in-law, the mother-in-law, the husband and the sister-in-law. The victim's sister has reportedly said that she was continuously abused throughout her marriage. She returned to her maternal home within months of her marriage and stayed there for more than a year. As per the sister's claim, the in-laws had a problem with the dowry they received and were forcing her to give more money and gifts.
