New Delhi: A 33-year-old man and two others have been arrested in Mumbai for allegedly dumping a 60-year-old cancer patient, in a forested area near Aarey Colony. The woman was found abandoned in a heap of garbage on Saturday. She was identified as Yashoda Gaikwad. The woman claimed that her grandson had left her in the area. The police arrested the three accused on Thursday. The woman's grandson, Sagar Shevale (33), her brother-in-law Babasaheb Gaikwad (70) and an autorickshaw driver Sanjay Kadresham (27) have been arrested in the case. All three were seen in a CCTV footage leaving her at the spot where she was found, a police official said on Thursday. The baleful plan The police had earlier rescued the elderly upon getting a tip-off and admitted her to a nearby hospital. Investigations revealed that Shevale, tried to get his grandmother admitted to Shatabdi hospital on June 20. Failing to do so, he along with his uncle, Gaikwad, boarded an auto-rickshaw to ferry his grandmother to Aarey colony. He paid the auto driver Rs 400 f0r dumping Yashoda in the garbage heap. Gaikwad later regretted his act and ordered Shekale to bring his grandmother back. The brother- in -law claimed that Shekale lied that he brought her home and fed her. Trio arrested The trio were arrested on Wednesday under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, the official said. CCTV footage showed that the accused first took the woman, a resident of suburban Borivali, to the civic-run Shatabdi Hospital on the night of June 21, but when the hospital authorities refused to admit her, they took her to the Aarey forest and left her there.
