HYDERABAD: In an early morning incident that unfolded like a scene from a thriller, a 34-year-old mentally unstable woman drove her hatchback for nearly seven kilometres on railway tracks, causing a temporary shutdown of train traffic between Nagulapally and Shankarpally stations, near Hyderabad, on Thursday.The woman, a former IT employee from Lucknow, was intercepted near Shankarpally by startled railway staff after her vehicle got lodged at a track switching point. Wearing a face mask, she emerged from the vehicle with an iron rod and hurled stones at the people who tried to approach her. "Railway staff overpowered her and handed her over to Shankarpally police," said an RPF official.Shankarpally police registered a suo motu case against the woman under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for obstructing and assaulting a public servant, criminal intimidation, and voluntarily causing hurt.Woman told police she would end her life minutes before driving on to tracksShe hurled stones at our constables and used abusive language. She obstructed us while performing our duties -- both at the police station and later when we took her to Chevella hospital," said Shankarpally inspector K Srinivas Goud.The Govt Railway Police (GRP) said the woman had been battling severe emotional distress. She had visited Narsingi police station around 6.30 am on Thursday, telling officers that she was going to end her life, but left abruptly before giving details. "She even forgot her bag at the police station. While the cops were trying to trace her, she reached Nagulapally and entered the railway tracks," GRP superintendent of police Chandana Deepti said.Railway police said she lost her job at a multinational IT company two months ago and had been staying alone in Puppalaguda following a divorce over a year ago. "After losing her job in the IT company, she wanted to join the armed forces and sought help from her family. She was upset about not getting the expected support and decided to end her life," a Vikarabad GRP officer said.Chandana Deepti said the distressed woman was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for a health check-up. "Prima facie, she wanted to die by suicide. We are in the process of registering a case, as her act could have endangered railway property and passengers. Vikarabad railway police are investigating the case," she said."We stopped traffic between Nagulapally and Shankarpally from 7.10 am to 8.15 am. After she was taken into custody and the car was removed, engineering teams inspected the track, and train services resumed," said an SCR spokesperson. Due to the disruption, four passenger trains and four goods trains were delayed.GRP officials said the woman's family in Lucknow is on the way to the city after being informed. A case will be registered under the Railway Act, a GRP officer said.
