2 killed, 52 injured after double-decker bus falls off Agra-Lucknow Expressway | Lucknow News - Times of India

Kanpur: Two persons died while 52 others were injured after a speeding double-decker bus travelling from Bihar to Delhi skidded off the Agra-Lucknow Expressway and plunged into a ditch in Saifai area of Etawah early Thursday, police said.It is reported that the accident occurred because the driver fell asleep.The injured were admitted to Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences in Saifai and the bodies sent for postmortem. Etawah ASP Akash Tomar said the bus departed from Madhubani in Bihar at 3pm on Wednesday, carrying about 67 people."The bus was moving at a very high speed. It appears that the driver fell asleep over the wheels and the bus plunged into a ditch killing two and injuring 52 others," Tomar said. Upon receiving the information, the UPEIDA team and local police arrived at the scene and rescued the passengers. "All were taken to the Medical University, where Shahina (22) from Bardaha village Mahottari district, Nepal, and Manoj Kumar (59) from Rampur Deeh, Darbhanga, Bihar, were declared dead," SSP Etawah Brijesh Kumar Srivastava said adding that search is on for the absconding driver. The SSP further said the exact cause of the accident is being investigated and actions are being prepared against the bus owner and operator. An injured passenger said three members of his family sustained minor injuries while four others were seriously injured.
