Pune: Pune experienced thundershowers on Saturday, but with much lesser intensity than Friday's heavy downpour, with rainfall mainly limited to south Pune areas.According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), Girivan recorded the highest rainfall of 22mm between 8.30am and 5.30pm on Saturday, followed by Chinchwad (13.5mm) and Bhor (12mm). Other areas that received some rain included Lavasa (9.5mm), NDA (7mm), Kurvande (6.5mm) and Pashan (6mm). Eastern parts of the city like Koregaon Park received minimal rainfall of just 0.5mm, while Baramati recorded only 0.4mm. Shivajinagar received 5mm during the period.An IMD official said the primary reason for Saturday's thundershowers was a trough extending from wast Vidarbha to north interior Karnataka. "This atmospheric trough is causing moisture incursion into the region. When combined with daytime heating, these conditions create ideal circumstances for convective rainfall," the official said. The IMD has forecast continued rainfall activity for Sunday, though the precipitation may not be widespread across the region. The IMD predicted "isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm & lightning likely over Konkan & Goa on 8th June, and over Madhya Maharashtra & Marathwada during 8-11th June." The department has also issued warnings for isolated heavy rainfall over Madhya Maharashtra on 12th & 13th June, and over Konkan & Goa on the same dates.
