KOLKATA: India's external debt rose by 1.5%, or $11.2 billion, in the first quarter to $747.2 billion in this fiscal year, central bank data showed. More than 93% of the debt is covered by the country's foreign-exchange stockpile. On a year-on-year basis, external debt increased by 9.6%, from $681.5 billion in the year-ago period.
