Hyderabad: The city witnessed lively Easter celebrations on Sunday, with churches across the city filled with people attending special prayers and services to mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The celebrations began on Saturday night with candlelight services and large gatherings.On Sunday morning, churches conducted masses in Telugu, English, Tamil and Malayalam, reflecting the city's diverse Christian community. Families arrived dressed in festive attire, greeting each other and spending time together after prayers.Easter also marks the end of Lent, a 40-day period observed by Christians before Easter. "During Lent, many people fast, pray more and avoid certain foods or habits as a way of spiritual preparation and self-discipline. It is a time for reflection, sacrifice and getting closer to faith," said Angela, a professor who attended St Joseph's church."Easter is special for us. After 40 days of Lent, it feels like a new beginning. We pray, forgive and celebrate with family," she added. After church services, many families returned home to celebrate with special meals and gatherings. Traditional dishes were prepared, and relatives came together to share food and joy. Children had their own fun decorating Easter eggs in bright colours, symbolising new life and hope."We attended the midnight service as a family.
