Rohtak: Senior Congress functionary and Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Surjewala on Friday accused Haryana Public Service Commission of discrimination in recruitment, claiming vacancies under categories of scheduled castes, backward classes, general and economically weaker sections were being left unfilled.Addressing the media after paying a visit to the house of former MP Jangbir Singh in Bhiwani following his death, Surjewala alleged that the BJP-led state govt does not consider the youth of Haryana worthy of employment opportunities. According to him, while Haryana's youth perform exceptionally well in central services, the commission fails to recognise their talent. Highlighting the condition of the education sector, Surjewala stated that nearly 60% of teacher posts in schools, 77% of principal positions and around 60% of professor posts at the college level remain vacant. He accused the govt of weakening universities financially by burdening them with loans, terming it a deliberate attempt to dismantle the education system in the state. On the issue of rising prices, Surjewala said there has been an increase in the cost of several essential items along with the imposition of new taxes. Collector rates, toll taxes and commercial LPG cylinder prices have been raised, he said, adding that fuel prices are likely to rise further after the assembly elections in West Bengal. Surjewala slammed the new wheat procurement rules requiring photographs of tractor-trolleys, biometric verification of farmers and restrictions on bringing produce to mandis beyond fixed hours (6 am to 8 pm). He alleged such measures are aimed at weakening the minimum support price (MSP) system.
