Srinagar, Mar 30: A Ganderbal resident, who was under a lookout notice issued by Counter Intelligence Kashmir, has been arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell near the Bangladesh border, officials said. Shabir Ahmad Lone, said to be linked to terrorist organisation Lashker-e-Toiba, a resident of Kangan in Ganderbal district, had been on the radar of security agencies for his role in orchestrating terrorist recruitment and operating cross-border networks. The CIK had earlier declared him a wanted terrorist and issued a lookout circular to track his movements, citing his involvement in reviving terror modules in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of India. According to investigators, Lone had fled to Bangladesh after securing bail in 2019 and subsequently established a terror-linked network from a hideout near Dhaka. He is believed to have been in continuous contact with handlers across the Line of Control and was actively coordinating recruitment, radicalisation, and logistical support through encrypted communication platforms. His arrest follows sustained surveillance and intelligence-sharing between agencies, culminating in a two-month-long operation by the Delhi Police. Officials said Lone's capture marks a significant breakthrough, as he was considered a key figure in rebuilding Lashkar-e-Taiba's operational presence through proxy networks, including links with The Resistance Front (TRF). Delhi Police officials said that during the arrest, multiple foreign currencies and other incriminating material was seized from his possession. "These included approximately 2,300 units of Bangladeshi Taka, 1,400 units of Nepalese currency, 5,000 units of Pakistani currency, and 3,000 units of Indian currency," they said. Raising suspicion about cross-border communication and operational coordination, the police also seized a Nepalese SIM card from his possession. The development comes amid intensified action by the Counter Intelligence Kashmir, which recently conducted multiple searches across Srinagar, Ganderbal, and Shopian districts in connection with a terror recruitment module linked to Lone.
