Guwahati: The state cabinet on Thursday decided to request Gauhati high court chief justice to set up a fast-track court to expedite the trial in Zubeen Garg's death case even as the SIT has said it will file the chargesheet by Nov-end.CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, in the post-cabinet briefing, said a Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) will be apoopointed in consultation with the Advocate General so that he can remain engaged in the case right from the filing of the chargesheet till the judgment is pronounced. "However, it is yet to be decided who will be appointed."Sarma said, "The cabinet has taken a decision that the chief minister will communicate with the high court chief justice on setting up the fast-track court when we become ready to file the chargesheet. This will ensure that the case can be heard on a day-to-day basis as people are seeking justice for Zubeen. Court takes a long time but the people are not willing to allow much time."The CM added that an Assam Police team, led by Special DGP and Special Investigation Team (SIT) chief MP Gupta, will meet Singapore Police in the island nation on Oct 21 as part of the ongoing probe. The team will fly to Singapore on Oct 20. "Our collective resolve remains -- justice for Zubeen will prevail," he said.Zubeen passed away in Singapore allegedly while swimming in the sea on Sept 19. "The department will prepare a DPR but the state cabinet has constituted a committee which will finalise the plan. PWD will implement the project as per the direction of the committee," he added.The committee will have 11 members, including Zubeen's wife, Garima, and younger sister Palme Borthakur.
