Hyderabad, Sep 28 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy today highlighted the importance of the revival of Musi river which has turned into a dump yard due to neglect of the previous governments. The CM said "Our government is moving forward to protect water bodies and revive the abandoned lakes and ponds under the Musi project." Speaking after the inauguration of the revived Batukamma Kunta Lake at Amberpet in the city, Revanth Reddy appealed to the people to extend all support to the prestigious Musi Rejuvenation Project, aiming to revive the extinct river Musi and protect the city from flood fury in the future. He said that Hyderabad was equipped to handle flood situations when the city received not more than 2 cm of rain. After the Covid pandemic, the climate change caused frequent cloud bursts. The state government anticipated the flood situation and prepared plans to strengthen infrastructure and environment protection, the CM said. The Chief Minister urged people to support the government for the great cause of the revival of Musi and protect the city from impending natural calamities in the future. "We are already witnessing the submergence of habitations in the Musi catchment area within one hour of rains in the city," he said. The Chief Minister instructed Hyderabad incharge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar to conduct a field visit and prepare proposals for the rehabilitation of the poor in the Musi catchment areas in the Amberpet area. We will develop Amberpet without any political agenda, the CM added. He also appealed to the poor to stop purchasing government assets from the land mafia. He said we are aware of the plight of the poor unlike the opposition which considered poverty as an excursion for them in politics, he said.
