Hyderabad: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday welcomed the Supreme Court's interim stay on select provisions of the new Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, but warned that it falls short of protecting waqf properties.He alleged that the BJP govt is intent on undermining the waqf system, believing it to be an "alien concept," and would attempt to ensure that waqf assets generate no income. "Yes, we respect the apex court's interim order. But it covers only some provisions. Many others aimed at weakening waqf remain untouched," Owaisi said, expressing hope that the court's final verdict will deliver full justice. He also raised concerns that encroachers could be rewarded under the Act and pointed to provisions allowing trusts to be excluded from waqf classification -- an apparent reference to benefiting influential individuals.
