Patna: The state CPI has indicated it would join a Grand Alliance govt if it comes to power in the state while the CPI(ML) and CPI-M appear reluctant to participate. "The CPI is positively disposed towards joining the Left and democratic govt in the state if it is formed," CPI national secretary Girish Chandra Sharma said on Friday after the conclusion of the four-day 25th state conference held at Gait Public Library campus, Gardanibagh. State secretary Ram Naresh Pandey said, "Yes, the CPI would join the grand alliance government if it is formed in the state. It is not for the first time; in the past, the CPI has joined both state and central govts." He recalled the CPI's role in the 1967 Samyukt Vidhayak Dal govt, which dislodged the Congress in Bihar, and noted senior CPI leaders had served as Union ministers in the United Front government at the Centre during 1996-98. In contrast, CPM state secretary Lalan Choudhary said the party would not join the grand alliance government, while CPI(ML) state secretary Kunal maintained their policy of supporting govts from outside unless they have sufficient strength to influence policy. Meanwhile, the 25th state conference concluded with Pandey being unanimously re-elected as CPI state secretary for a second three-year term by the 115-member state council. "The election process for the state council and secretariat members was conducted in a very disciplined manner, with all 600 delegates participating," said Sharma and Pallav Sen Gupta, central observers for the conference. The conference also selected 67 state delegates and seven alternative delegates for the party's national council, including youth representatives Sabina Khatoon from Khagaria and Aneesh Ankur from Patna.
